Oakham: Councillors defer decision on planned extension to Rutland quarry

Councillors have deferred a decision concerning a planned extension to a quarry in Rutland.

The county council's planning committee had been advised by planning staff to approve the extension, when it met last week.

As Nub News previously reported, Mick George Ltd sought a north-west extension to his quarry at Greetham.

This was so 3 million tonnes of limestone aggregate and 0.1 million tonnes of building stone can be accessed over a further 20 years using a new site access on Thistleton Lane.

Objections were received from Greetham Parish Council and individuals from the local community. Key issues raised include amenity (dust and noise), transport movements, and restoration.

Rutland County Council Planning staff felt that approval could be given, subject to a range of conditions being imposed on the application to mitigate undesirable effects.

However, at the meeting last Tuesday, councillors voted to defer the decision on this application while officials look more closely at some of the issues around dust monitoring.
