Staycation experts have named Oakham as one of the best 'meet in the middle' spots between London and Leeds, describing it as a 'great underrated half-way point.'

According to holiday experts from holidaycottages.co.uk, 47% of families now take multi-generational staycations, often finding a central location between different family homes to spend their holiday.

They recognise Oakham as an under-appreciated holiday spot, providing a great middle-ground between those travelling from London and the North of England.

Julia Smith, regional expert, said: 'Families can visit historic Oakham Castle or take a scenic Rutland Water Cruise for stunning lakeside views.

'Foodies in the family will love Hitchen's Barn, Sarpech Wine Bar and Restaurant, and 10 Dining Street, while classic pub atmospheres can be found at The Wheatsheaf, The Fox and Hounds, and The Blue Bell at Braunston.

'For outdoor adventures, the Rutland Water Circular, Hambleton and Rutland Water, and Exton Park and Lower Lake Circular offer easy, family-friendly walks with plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities.'

Oakham is described as the ideal spot of bringing together families that are spread across the country, providing a central location with popular local attractions and food.
