A local mother, Emma Johnson, has got in touch with Oakham Nub News describing her distress as she struggles to find an NHS dentist who can see her 3-year-old son.

Following the 'shocking' discovery that no Rutland dental practices are accepting NHS patients, a local mother has got in touch voicing her distress that she cannot access NHS dental care for her son, adding that 'something must be done'.

Emma explained: "I require an urgent appointment for my 3 year old son and this is now causing me great distress.

"I've called 18 dentists and they are now too far away so even if I did manage to get into one, which I have not, it'd take me nearly an hour to get there."

At the end of August 2022, Rutland's Liberal Democrats spoke out about the 'shocking' investigation of dentistry services across the UK in which new analysis by the BBC has found that 100% of dentistry practices they approached in Rutland are not accepting any new NHS patients.

This followed the announcement in early August that NHS patients at MyDentist were removed from their practice list prior to their relocation to Maresfield Road.

The Liberal Democrats have accused the Government of "breaking" the dental system due to a lack of investment. The party have also called for new plans to be brought forward to recruit more local NHS dentists, so no matter where you live you know you can get the NHS dental care you need.

Emma concluded: "Something must be done. We pay for dental care we cannot access."

Are you struggling to access affordable dental care, or do you feel that private dental care is a good option for you?
