Oakham opinion: Why do dog owners allow their dogs to poo on the pavements?
Local lady Nicola Devas has got in touch with Oakham Nub News asking why dog owners allow their dogs to poo on the pavement?
This is an ongoing issue, with another Oakham local writing in in July of this year voicing her frustration having accoutred multiple issues of dog fouling on the Oakham to Langham canal path.
Oakham local Karen wrote in to say: "I walked up the canal between Oakham and Langham just last night, and I came across no less than 5 instances of dog mess in less than 50 yards.
I know it is easy for people to miss these things, especially when walking later at night, but these footpaths are used by everyone - kids going to school even - so leaving a mess behind like this seems unfair and irresponsible."
Nicola has joined the conversation, adding: "This may be controversial but why do dog owners allow their dogs to poo on the pavements? Yet again this morning on Northgate in Oakham, dog dirt all over the pavement. Some poor soul had clearly had the misfortune to step in it. It is next to driveways and doorways and is totally disgusting. Clearly no effort to clean it up. I suspect those who allow their dogs to to this simply don't care so I am asking what can be done about this constant problem."
Other Rutland residents have pointed out that it is not the location of the act, but that owners leave their dog waste behind that is the problem - an act punishable by a fine of up to £1000, if it ends up in court.
Have you encountered this, or are you a dog owner that gets equally frustrated by those leaving their waste?
