Oakham Pride will be hosting a community picnic this July instead of the usual Oakham Pride event due to a lack of funds.

Oakham Pride launched with a huge event in June 2022 that welcomed hundreds to Cutts Close and Oakham Castle grounds to enjoy live music, drag, stalls, local produce and more.

Following the success, the event once again went ahead in 2023, but following a cancelled fundraising ball and other struggles for the team, 2024 Oakham Pride was not to be.

This year though, the group are still keen to meet up, forge connections and make the most of the sunny weather on the cards.

An alternative to the usual Oakham Pride event hosted by the group, the picnic invites the local LGBTQ+ community and allies to come together for an informal picnic at Cutts Close.

The team said: "Sadly we can't afford to splurge out this year, we need to raise funds, so we thought maybe we could all gather together at Cutts Close informally dressed in bright colours and sparkles, Bring something to eat and drink, bring your flags and let our community and supporters gather together for a lovely picnic while waving our flags high! Bring your acoustic instruments if you have any and we can all have a low key jam. Our very own fantastic Hannah Rack will be there to lead the way."

The Oakham Pride Picnic will take place on 27 July from 12:30 - 4pm.
