Rutland residents are invited to join officials at the Oakham Castle in a special flag raising ceremony.

Taking place at 10.30am on Monday (June 22), the annual raising of the Armed Forces Flag will herald the start of Armed Forces Week, during which military personnel and their families are celebrated across the country, before Armed Forces Day on Saturday (June 27).

The Armed Forces Flag will be raised by HM Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, alongside the Chairman of Rutland County Council, Councillor Andrew Brown (Independent – Lyddington ward).

"Armed Forces Day gives us an opportunity to recognise the courage, professionalism and dedication of the men and women who serve our country, as well as the invaluable support provided by veterans, reservists, cadets and military families," Coun Brown said.

"Raising the Armed Forces Flag is a simple but meaningful way of demonstrating our gratitude and showing that Rutland stands proudly alongside our Armed Forces community. I encourage residents to join us at Oakham Castle as we mark the start of this important week of national recognition."

Members of the public are advised to arrive in good time before the event starts, and to note the ceremony will take place outside. Parking will not be available within the grounds.
