Oakham teenager becomes Triple County Champion for second year in a row

Maizie Whitbread, age 14 from Oakham, has taken the win as Triple County Champion for the second year running at the Leicester and Rutland County Championships.
Currently in the top 20 in the whole country, Maize has been going from strength to strength after only moving to the sport two years ago. Previously, she danced for England before moving onto athletics.

Over the two-day event, Maize took part in four events taking home three golds in the 100m, 200m and high jump and a bronze in the 300m.
Maize is currently a student at Catmose College and trains at Corby Academy with Bill Boyd.
Speaking to Nub News, Maize said: 'I am very lucky, I have good people around me: I go to Paul at Spectrum Wellness in Newark every week for Personal Trainer sessions and physio; [...] my coach Bill; and GB athlete Sammy Lok, who has helped me with high jump.
'I'm just improving all the time and there is so much more to come.'
Congratulations to Maize from the whole Nub News team – we are all wishing Maize the best with her future training and competitions.
