A new metal case to protect a defibrillator from vandals will be installed in Oakham at a cost of £570.

The defibrillator, which is located on the shelter in Cutts Close, used to have a plastic case on it when it was first installed, but this was vandalised shortly afterwards.

Members of Oakham Town Council approved a spend of £570 at their extraordinary meeting on Wednesday last week (September 20), agreeing to purchase the new metal casing which will house the defibrillator and protect it from vandals.

The new steel cabinet is waterproof and designed to be used outdoors. Internally, it is temperature controlled, regulating the storage temperature of the defibrillator.

It has a mechanical 'digilock' keypad as well as an integral security alarm which sirens if it is forced open.

There is an internal LED light for easy retrieval of the defibrillator, even when it is dark.

Do you think this is a good use of £570?
