Oakham Town Council approves improvements to Centenary Field

By The Editor 11th Apr 2021

Oakham Town Council approved a series of improvements to be made to continue the development of Centenary Field.

Some of these developments will be undertaken by contractors whilst several Town Councillors will themselves be undertaking work to improve the area.

At a recent town council meeting which approved the move, Councillor Adam Lowe brought a paper to council noting the fitness trail that has already been installed and discussions that have been ongoing with local residents.

Oakham Town Council unanimously approved the proposals to install anti-slip decking at the entrance off Barleythorpe Road and Huntsmans Drive, to install a kissing gate at the entrance off Barleythorpe Road, to repair the significant gaps in the perimeter fence, to remove the Ash trees, to remove the chain link fencing from the wooded area and to purchase four additional bins.

A town council spokeswoman said: "Much of this approved work will be carried out by councillors, covered under the Town Council insurance policy. As local residents themselves councillors are invested in providing safe, attractive spaces for everyone to enjoy and are very keen to be able to do something hands on for the community.

"The council also discussed further improvements that could be made in the future including ensuring the area is accessible for those with mobility problems."

In addition to these improvements, Oakham Town Council has also called for recommendations to this and other parts of the town.
