Oakham Town Council is looking to spend more than £5000 on a new mayoral chain.

Councillors will consider the matter on Wednesday evening at a full meeting of the town council.

A report for the meeting says a new chain will cost £5230 plus carriage and VAT.

The town council in 2019 contacted a local jeweller who said no further work could be done on the existing chain and an alternative design for the council's regalia was sought.

The report further said that the existing chain was "becoming increasingly unmanageable to wear."

It added councillors are asked to 'consider' the purchase, saying the funds for the new chain would come form 'earmarked reserves.'

Details of the report and meeting can be found here.
