Nearly £4,000 was spent on coronation events in Oakham.

At the extraordinary meeting of Oakham Town Council (OTC) on 31 May, members heard from Oakham Mayor and Chair of OTC, Cllr Sally-Anne Wadsworth, that the council had spent a total of £3,915 on events associated with the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The events, which took place at the beginning of the month, resulted in expenditure of nearly £4,000 by the local council.

This included the purchase of a number of official commemorative mugs that were given as prizes to the best dressed 'king' or 'queen' at an event at Cutts Close in Oakham, and 200 souvenir badges to mark the occasion, as well as the use of other council facilities.

Members at the meeting also considered eight planning applications, including the removal of the ATM at 10 High Street outside Barclay Bank, which closed in April.

All eight of the applications were given Oakham Town Council approval, and the details of which can be found online.

Finally, members chose newly elected Cllr Philip Wildbore to be the new tree warden for the council.

The next meeting of the full council of Oakham Town Council will be held on Wednesday, 14 June 2023.
