Oaktown Town Council is to further investigate how best it can use social media to spread its messages and make itself more accessible to the public.

The issue was discussed at a recent town council meeting where members discussed the options available in a report produced by Mayor Zoe Nealson.

Mayor Nealson told Nub News this week: "Following on from this meeting the social media working group are undertaking further research to establish which method of streaming would be most cost effective, we want to provide the best service for the best price.

"Corona virus restrictions severely limit how many people can be in the Chambers at any one time and although we are anticipating these restrictions being lifted imminently we can not really be sure they won't be enforced again.

"We also have a wide population who want to know what is happening in meetings but for various reasons are unable to attend the Chambers, streaming the meetings in real time enables people to view what is happening and engage with us when appropriate.

"Oakham Town Council works for the benefit of the residents of Oakham, we hope by streaming our meetings we will be able to reach people who are interested and invested in what we do who can't attend in person."
