Oakham Town Council will purchase new official images of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla
Oakham Town Council will be purchasing official images of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla as part of a review of its official resources plans.
Speaking at the meeting of the full council on 22 February, Oakham Mayor, Cllr Sally-Anne Wadsworth said: "As we look forward, new plans for the towns' official resources will have to be produced.
"Currently, we have an official image of Her Majesty our late Queen Elizabeth II, and an official image of His Royal Highness, the late Duke of Edinburgh.
"Additionally, we have four books of condolence, eight black ties and 10 black arm bands in storage for members of the town council as and when these are needed.
"While I do not think any additional books, ties or armbands are required, I do think the Town Council should find the resources to pay for a new official image of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty, Queen Consort Camilla."
Members of the Council unanimously agreed that the town council already has enough items in storage and so no more would be purchased, but that they would need to purchase the official images of the King and the Queen Consort.
This comes as discussions surrounding the erection of a statue remembering the late Queen Elizabeth II are discussed.
While many members of the local community support this display of affection for the late Monarch, many have voiced their frustration at funds being set aside for such projects following the dismissal of the Centenary Fields Skatepark proposal.
Although this proposal was rejected following concerns of disruption, light pollution and anti-social behaviour by residents living adjacent to Centenary Fields, one of the reasons given by the Council was the cost of maintenance.
