A new furniture and gift shop, Peeky's, has opened on Oakham's South Street.

This store was the intended home of the interactive sports venue, Ballers, which never opened despite enthusiasm from younger Oakham residents.

Ballers was originally set to open in October, providing a range of simulation activities including football, shooting, bowling.

Following delays, the team promised a New Year opening, but this was not to be.

Prior to this, the venue was the popular and long-standing store, Shoecraft.

Finally though, the new recycled furniture and gift store will be opening, leaving one less empty shop in the once-thriving market town.

Peeky's opened on 28 January 2023 and is run by Stephen and Kelly Brant, a husband and wife duo who are excited to welcome new customers to the store.

Kelly and Stephen live in Stamford with their four children, aged 7, 5, 5, and 3, and 2 bulldogs.

Stephen has a long history in the welding and fabrication trade, which he said "has been useful for a majority of our builds". Kelly is a qualified florist and an "extremely busy mummy. She has an artistic eye which shows on some of our creations."

They added: "We started doing this as a hobby and for our own home and had a lot of positive input from friends, family and colleagues. We do sell other things we haven't made as we are a new business and need to supplement our stock.

"We decided to take the plunge late last year when our premises were offered to us. We took possession 14th January and after a crazy 2 weeks designing and fitting the shop we officially opened on 24th January.

"Our first day was pleasantly busy with a steady flow of browsers and buyers."

When they aren't in the shop, creating, and making, the duo to visit Rutland water with their dogs and nip into Oakham for a bite to eat and drink afterwards. 

They look forward to spending more time in the area and meeting the locals.
