An successful and award-winning Oakham company has celebrated its royal recognition.

Woolroom, based in Pillings Road, is UK's leading wool bedding specialist, and was recently honoured with a Queen's Award for Enterprise, the first and only business in Rutland to have so far won a Queens Award.

Last Thursday, at Oakham Castle, the company received its award for Excellence in International Trade from Dr Sarah Furness, the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland.

Other guests in attendance to celebrate the award win included The Deputy Town Mayor of Oakham Coun Jean Denyer, Mark Andrews, CEO of Rutland County Council, plus Woolroom's colleagues, friends, and family.

Employing 25 people, Woolroom was founded in 2008 and is a specialist homewares retailer which utilises the amazing qualities of wool at the heart of all its products.

Chris Tattersall, Managing Director and 100% owner since 2019 has worked with scientists to prove the benefits of using wool.

Woolroom has three shops of its own, it suppliers other retailers and sells online.

Recent growth has been strong in North America and Iceland, where it partnered with an Icelandic company to develop the Woolroom brand there.

It is this major growth in North America and Iceland over the last three years that has culminated in this Queen's Award

Mr Tattersall commented: "We are immensely proud to have been selected as a winner for the Queen's Award for Enterprise, it has been a team effort delivering such a great increase in International Trade over the last three years and I would like to thank my team for all their hard work, particularly through the challenges of the pandemic.

"As our business continues to grow, we will most definitely be applying for another one in years to come."
