This year, fundraising plans are well under-way for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal and memorials.

Last year, Oakham's Poppy Appeal raised £24,258 across its fundraising team. This would not have been possible without the hard work of the volunteers at the local schools, supermarkets, businesses and veterans and volunteers giving up their time to support the cause.

Chairman of Oakham Royal British Legion and former mayor of Oakham, Adam Lowe, says: "the public's support, given the cost of living has been phenomenal. Following the pandemic, the dedication of the team has been invaluable in building relationships in and around the county. The stalls at Tesco in Oakham and other sites have built a great following."

Rutland Festival of Remembrance will be held on 8th November at Rutland Hall Hotel, hosted by Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr Sarah Furness. This will be an evening of reflection and music, as Rutland celebrates all who have served or are currently serving in HM Forces. The concert will include performances from local secondary schools as well as The Cottesmore Military Wives Choir, The LNR AFC Corps of Drums, and Uppingham School Pipe Band.

On 9th November, there will be a performance from Rutland Concert Band - "Music For Remembrance." This concert will include an appearance from award-winning soprano Katie Marshall, with all funds raised going to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The concert will take place on Saturday 9th November at 7.30pm at All Saints Church in Oakham. Tickets cost £5 and will be available to purchase on the door.
