The parents of drowned Ketton teenager Sonny Ferry have made a formal complaint about North Yorkshire Police's investigation into his death.

Nineteen-year-old Sonny fell in the River Foss, in York, in the early hours of April 13 after a night out. His body was recovered the following day.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police confirmed his parents, Kate and Steve, have lodged a formal complaint.

She said: "We can confirm that we have received a complaint from the parents of Sonny Ferry which is currently subject to an independent review of the police investigation.

"While the review is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment on any specific aspect of the complaint until its conclusion.

"We understand that this has been a very difficult time for Sonny's family and will ensure answers are obtained for them.

"Any lessons learned at the conclusion of our investigation into Sonny's death will be clearly communicated to all involved and to the wider organisation."

Oakham Nub News has attempted to contact Mr Ferry for a comment and is awaiting a response.

A 44-year-old man of no fixed abode arrested in August on suspicion of stealing Sonny's wallet remains released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Sonny's bank card was used fraudulently at the time of his death to make unauthorised payments for items.
