Plans for new Grade II-listed holiday let near Oakham withdrawn
Plans for a brand-new Grade-II listed holiday let near Oakham have been withdrawn, before a decision could be made.
Mr and Mrs Boone previously applied for permission to change the use of their storage barns on Burley Road, Langham, into a holiday let.
The proposed works included alterations to the interior and exterior of a listed building to create a three-bedroom unit with kitchen, dining and sitting space.
A Design and Access Statement submitted alongside the application states: "It is clear that substantial repair works are required to retain the barns even to keep the status quo. It is, therefore, proposed to convert them into a holiday let to ensure there are long term viability and preserve the buildings.
"The proposed works are being undertaken to preserve the existing barns and ensure they are repaired. The impact on the heritage of the existing barns has been kept to a minimum with the retention of all existing original historical openings, with no additional openings added, and the preservation of original features.
"Other options for the retention of the barns were explored but on balance the conversion to a holiday let was preferred and will ensure its long term future."
The Highways department at Rutland County Council raised concerns that "the regularly changing users of the holiday let will not be familiar with the area or route, which is likely to lead to highway safety issues for vulnerable users of the public right of way" and "the parking shown would not be accessible".
No further action will be taken on this planning application.
