Plants in a large section of an Oakham In Bloom-maintained flowerbed are dead or dying.

Oakham In Bloom members discovered the aftermath of what it believes is the result of herbicide spraying and took to Twitter today (Sun) to share the 'devastating' results.

The volunteer organisation posted photos of the flowerbed - at the top of Lands End Way at the bypass roundabout junction - today and how it looked at the same time last year.

Gardening Co-ordinator Craig Howat said: "It appears someone has sprayed herbicide over our Lands End Way flowerbed.

"Sadly a swathe of flowers - in a clear arc pattern around the road sign - are yellow, shrivelled and dying."

Floral victims of the suspected spraying are poppies, Love-in-a-mist, Sea Holly, geraniums and an impressive yellow flowered verbascum. Many of the plants had been grown from seed.

Oakham In Bloom is yet to discover who is responsible for the spraying.
