Hundreds of people attended a 'rave' in fields in Rutland at the weekend.

Police received a report at 12.26am on Sunday of an 'unlicensed rave' being held in some fields in the area of The Drift, Pickworth.

A police statement told Nub News: "Officers were deployed to assist with the dispersal of people who were at the event. Musical equipment was also seized.

"A 25-year-old man, of Norfolk, and a 37-year-old man, of Peterborough were arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. The 37-year-old man was also later arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

"Both men have since been released under investigation and enquiries are ongoing.

"The officer suffered minor injuries. He has not reported sick.

Officers have also been carrying out a community impact assessment and speaking to residents in the area."

Simon Cole, the chief constable of Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland Police said on twitter yesterday: "Astonishing that someone thinks it acceptable to organise an unlicensed music event (rave) with 300 people in Pickworth. No thought for the safety of those attending, and #COVID compliance."

He added: "Great effort by team @leicspolice to seize equipment and ensure public safety. Two people arrested. Sadly, one officer has injuries after being kicked."
