The team behind Whissendine Feast Week have announced the grand total raised at their Feast Week event from July 2023.

Despite the long wait, Whissendine residents have celebrated the announcement of the grand total raised at this year's Feast Week event, with £8,000 being distributed to local groups and organisations as a result.

Each summer, Whissendine hosts its annual Feast Week, an ancient custom with origins in the Middle Ages that sees a week of activities for all age groups taking place across the village.

For over 30 years, money raised during Feast Week has supported many village activities and good causes including local play areas, the Village Hall, St. Andrew's Church, Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Senior Citizens Christmas Hampers, Holiday Club and school trips.

This year was no exception, with record-breaking funds being raised by the hard working committee and local community.

The team shared the news on social media: "We have been a bit quiet, but things are happening behind the scenes preparing for next years Feast Week.

"Feast Week 2023 was a Record breaking year as we raised the most money ever - over £8,000!"

Donations have already been made to a range of charities and local groups:

  • Whissendine Sports Club
  • Whissendine Flower Festival
  • Whissendine Village Hall
  • Whissendine Resuscitation Group
  • Whissendine Craft and Produce Show
  • MacMillan Nurses
  • Air Ambulance
  • Parkinsons Group

The committee said: "Whissendine Feast Week Committee would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the planning of all the activities. A special thank you goes out to all those who have generously supported Feast Week events over the years."

If any groups or clubs in the village would like support from the Feast Week fund, they can get in touch via Facebook.
