Remember, remember the fourth of November! That's when the Lions Club of Rutland will be hosting its annual Fireworks Display at Oakham Rugby Club, Rutland Showground.

Two fabulous displays from 1st Galaxy Fireworks will take place at 6.15pm and 7pm to mark the annual commemoration of Guy Fawkes.

Guy Fawkes Day, also called Bonfire Night, is celebrated on November 5 (and the closest weekend), commemorating the failure of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605.

The Rutland Lions host the county's most anticipated celebration of this annual event.

Since the mid-eighties the Lions Club of Rutland has been staging the event as a fundraiser for local good causes such as Rutland Foodbank, Men in Sheds and the Oakham Canal Green Corridor Project. It is the only formally organised firework event in Oakham.

While visitors are waiting for the fun to start there are free rides for children to keep little ones happy, hot food with locally sourced ingredients provided by Roaming Giraffe Events plus hot drinks and, of course, the rugby club bar will be open for business.

Please note that there is only parking for Blue Badge holders at the showground (be sure to have your badge on display).

For other car drivers there are plenty of parking spaces nearby, courtesy of many local businesses, which will be signed. Please only park in spaces belonging to the following companies: Lands' End and Mecc Alte UK (off Land's End Way); Cabel and Cakehead (off Maresfield Road); Easy Bathrooms & Tiles, Eden Tyres & Servicing, Howdens, Mowbray Interiors, Screwfix and Toolstation (off Panniers Way); and BEfit gym, CrossFit gym, Moores Estate Agents (off Hackamore Way). Please do not park at The Old Buttercross. Parking is at owner's risk.

Tickets are still available online. On the day, online tickets are £4 for youngsters aged 5-16 and £8 for anyone 17 or over. At the gate tickets are £10. In all cases, entrance is free for children under the age of 5.
