Barnsdale Lodge Hotel, has been taken over by The Signet Collection and is set to be called The Barnsdale, much to the dismay of one Rutland resident.

The latest addition to The Signet Collection, Barnsdale Lodge Hotel is about to embark on a new chapter as The Barnsdale.

The Signet Collection was created in 2020 and has become acclaimed for its "innovative reimagining of historic boutique hotels, creating meaningful and memorable stays."

The company currently owns three venues, including The Barnsdale: The Mitre in Hampton Court, and The Retreat, in West Berkshire.

The Barnsdale will be a "refined yet relaxed boutique hotel, at the heart of Rutland's beautiful countryside. Quirky British sensibility meets elegant authentic luxury. Guests will see the old blended with the new, the refined with the comfortable, and the local with the worldly."

A spokesperson for the company said: "We will soon open our doors again; reimagined, revitalised and oozing with laid-back luxury, celebrating our Rutland setting and paying tribute to the hotel's heritage."

However, one Rutland resident is unimpressed with the name change.

Hazel Booth said: "The Barnsdale is an awful name. Why the Barnsdale? We don't call places the Oakham, the Uppingham etc. These incomers! It sounds like a house style on a building development."

The venue recently hosted a recruitment day, during which roles including receptionists, bar and waiting staff, and chefs were advertised. If you were unable to make it, you can still send your CV to [email protected].
