Wild Rutland are inviting Rutland residents to join them for two upcoming free events taking place this spring.

The events, which are on 21 and 25 March, will take place on the proposed site for the safari park, allowing local people to find out about new volunteer opportunities.

Attendees can find out more about the nature and conservation opportunities the park hope to bring to the community and these events are the first opportunity for the public to get involved in the project.

Wild Rutland have submitted plans to Rutland County Council to build a brand new 1,00-acre conservation-inspired visitor attraction in the farmland, parkland and woods between Oakham, Rutland Water and Burley.

According to Wild Rutland, their plan is 'an ambitious and visionary new conservation and wildlife-led visitor attraction in the heart of the English countryside.'

They hope to 'restore and enhance the heritage landscape by bringing back lost features and improving habitats for wildlife.'

These first two volunteer events at Wild Rutland will run from 10am to 12.30pm and will cover the same content so there is no need to attend both.

This will be an opportunity for volunteers to explore the site with a guided walk which one of the Wild Rutland team explains their ecological plans.

As the site is not usually accessible to the public, this is a rare opportunity to experience the ancient woodland and find out how you can get involved in the restoration and conservation.

During the event, visitors can meet the Wild Rutland team and hear about potential volunteer opportunities.

This will initially include practical habitat restoration and creation across the woodland and wider landscape, surveying species and the chance to lead wildlife tours.
