Rutland 97-year-old hangs up on scammer

By The Editor 8th Feb 2021

A 97-year-old Rutland woman hung up on a scammer, police have reported.

In a post on social media, Rutland police commented: "Visited #Oakham resident who received call from a #scammer yesterday claiming to be a police officer.

"At 97 some may say she is vulnerable and I'd agree but extremely switched on and knew it wasn't right and hung up."

As Nub News has reported, a variety of organisations have issued warnings of scams, including people claiming to be police officers.

Related internet safety seminars run by Lincolnshire Police are due to take place tomorrow and Thursday, as also reported by Nub News.
