Rutland Campaign for Real Ale raised £1,174.72 for local charity LOROS, presenting them with a cheque at a small ceremony at Oakham Museum.

The funds were raised at the 11th Annual CAMRA Beer Festival in June, hosted in the courtyard of Oakham Museum.

Chairman of Rutland CAMRA, Rich Harris said 'a lot of local people have a personal connection to LOROS. People were happy to donate because LOROS was helping care for a relative or someone they knew.'

Funds were raised with a raffle, a soft drink and prosecco stand run by CAMRA, glass rentals, beer tokens and local companies sponsoring kegs.

Darren Hayward, who runs CTA First Aid, also donated the fee he would have charged for doing the First Aid for the day, choosing to work for free to support the charity.

Some beers on offer came from local breweries, including Grainstore Brewery and Bakers Dozen. Mallard Point even bought wine and cider. Local businesses sponsored kegs, and The Plough at Greetham supplied food for the event.

Events like this really capture the giving community spirit that Oakham has to offer, with organisations and local businesses coming together to raise money for an amazing cause and have a few pints while they do it.
