Catmose College in Oakham is seeking views from parents about a planned £5million expansion.

Principal Stuart Williams has written to them saying they and other secondary schools in Rutland are all oversubscribed and this is forecast to continue.

Already, families are being refused places, making for longer bus journey with pupils having to attend their second choices, something set to get worse as more homes are built across the county, he said.

Mr Williams said in partnership with Rutland County Council, the school plans to accept 30 extra students a year from September 2022, so it would accept 240 instead of 210 for Year 7.

To support the growth, Rutland County Council has pledged to invest £5M, which will see new facilities, support and a broader curriculum for all our students through new modern foreign languages, technology and science facilities.

For further information on the expansion plans go to here.

The school also posted on its website : "We are interested in your views on these proposals and have set up a short online survey, which will take a few minutes to complete."

To complete the survey go to here.

Consultation started last Friday July 2 and is open until October 8. Interested parties can find out more at a school open evening on 6 October 2021.

Printed copies of the survey are also available from Catmose College reception.
