Rutland Council encourages residents to make sure they can vote in future elections

Rutland residents are being encouraged by the County Council to take part in this year's annual canvass of electors, to ensure they can vote in future elections.
The annual canvass is held from the end of July to December annually and helps local councils to update their Register of Electors.
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote, meaning they will be able to vote in local and national elections.
People who have moved house recently are being especially encouraged to watch out for voter registration letters or messages, and to check who is registered to vote at their new address.
Research by the Electoral Commission shows that people that have recently moved house are far less likely to be registered to vote than those who have lived at the same address a long time.
By law, local councils are required to organise and oversee the annual canvass in their area. Depending on what contact details the council has for you, an email or letter will be sent in the coming days asking residents to take part in the canvass.
Emails about the canvass will only be sent by the secure email address [email protected] and may go into your junk or spam folder.
Letters will be sent to residents who's details the council need to confirm. These letters will be sent in August.
Further information about registering to vote can be found online at: www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections
