Rutland County Council successfully held a virtual meeting of its Cabinet yesterday (Tuesday).

The meeting took place using an online webinar facility in order to meet government COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings.

As part of the meeting, Cabinet received an update on coronavirus (COVID-19) and approved the continued use of emergency powers to support the Council's ongoing response to the virus.

Cabinet also approved the Council's latest Highways Capital Maintenance Programme, which summarises all works operations that are planned over the next 12 months to keep local roads safe and in a good condition.

The Department for Transport has issued clear guidance confirming that essential road maintenance and safety improvements should continue during the current pandemic period.

Councillor Oliver Hemsley, Leader of Rutland County Council, said: "Tuesday's virtual Cabinet meeting was a good example of how we must continue to discuss important issues and make decisions despite COVID-19. No one can say with certainty how long the pandemic period may last and we can't delay important programmes of work, like maintaining our highway network. We have to continue to deliver key services while supporting all those affected by the impact of COVID-19.

"Following on from Cabinet, we are looking to hold a virtual Full Council meeting on Wednesday 20 May, at the slightly earlier time of 5.00pm. Members of the public will once again be able to follow the meeting online and further information will be available in the coming weeks."
