Rutland Cycling is backing the University Community College Fire Relief Sportive which is being organised by WildDog Events on Sunday, 18th October to help raise funds following the devastating fire at the college last month.

Rutland Cycling is offering sponsorship, goody bags for participants and a pop-up mechanical workshop on the day of the event at the college for those last-minute adjustments and bike health checks.

To open the event up to the whole community, Rutland Cycling are also offering a hire bike and helmet package day hire of £19.99 (a 15% reduction on the day hire rate).

Hire bikes will be delivered directly to the start line at the college on the morning of the event and Rutland staff will pick up the bikes on return later in the day.

To take advantage of this offer bikes must be booked online at www.rutlandcycling.com/hire and booked via the Whitwell and Normanton hire options, using the code UCC FIRE.

Paul Rymer, Rutland's Hire Manager, said: "Many of our staff have attended UCC in the past or have family currently at the college and we are delighted to support this community fundraising sportive, to help bring the community together at this difficult time and to help raise as much money as possible for the school.

"Getting out on a bike is a great way to fundraise while enjoying the fresh air and the stunning scenery around our county, so we hope as many people as possible will join the event."

Lisa from WildDog Events said: "WildDog Events live, work, rest and play throughout the Rutland area and our children attend UCC so this cause is very close to our hearts.

"We are thrilled to have the support of Rutland Cycling as one of our main sponsors and we know that their involvement will enhance the experience of our cyclists on the day of the sportive.

"Encouraging the whole community to get out on their bikes to raise money for Uppingham Community College, to build back better following their fire only makes the event more special. Thank you Rutland Cycling for your support!"

WildDog Events and participating sponsors will be ensuring that Covid precautions will follow the Government guidelines at all times to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, volunteers and staff.
