The annual Rutland Fairtrade Christmas Market returns to Oakham Castle on Saturday the 19th of November 2022 from 10am to 3pm.

With stalls offering a fabulous variety of Fairtrade and ethically traded products from around the world, the Market will be an ideal opportunity to stock up on gifts and foods in the run up to Christmas.

The Market is organised by the Rutland Fairtrade Forum and has been running for more than ten years, becoming well-established as a popular event in the run up to Christmas.

David Lewis from the Forum commented: "After the last two years where we have had to scale back the Market due to Covid restrictions, we are delighted to be back to full strength this year, with Fairtrade stallholders travelling from across the East Midlands to join us. There will be a huge variety of items on sale, including food and drink, clothes, accessories, jewellery, crafts, toys and Christmas decorations.

"Even if you don't plan to buy anything, you are welcome to come and browse the stalls and admire the creativity and skill of small traders in Nepal, Ghana, South Africa, Peru and many other countries. A lot of the producers have limited resources and use great ingenuity in making beautifully crafted items from recycled materials. We are also delighted to welcome back our friends from the Co-op who will be offering samples of Fairtrade wines."

The Rutland Fairtrade Forum is a voluntary group which works to promote Fairtrade across the County. By supporting Fairtrade, residents of Rutland have the opportunity to help producers in some of the world's poorest countries to use trade as a means of improving their living standards. These producers receive a guaranteed price for their produce plus a Fairtrade premium which is invested in social or environmental projects in their wider communities.
