Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic 2023 crowns winners

This weekend, Sunday 23 April, the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic saw over 170 riders hit the roads and tracks in between Rutland and Melton.

The Rutland – Melton International CiCLE Classic is known for its unique and challenging course that takes riders through the picturesque countryside of Rutland and Leicestershire.

The 17th edition of the event took place in the rain and riders and spectators did not stay dry for long, but it did not deter residents, who came out under umbrellas and in waterproofs to enjoy the annual race.

The race started at 11am at Oakham Enterprise Park, and passed through Langham, Barleythorpe, Cold Overton, Burton Lazars and other local villages, finishing in Melton Mowbray.

The CiCLE Classic team hosted an official event in Owston, with sponsors Sigma Sports and Kwaremont keeping spectators entertained with cowbells, bike tests and beer.

There was also be a pop up market in Oakham's Mill Street from 9am until 1pm, hosted by Carolyn Acton-Reed. 

In first place was Luke Lamperti of the USA team, Trinity Racing. He finished with a time of 4:38:332.

Tijl De Decker of the Lotto Dstny Development Team finished second.

James McKay of Cycling Sheffield, the only UK rider to finish in the top 3, came third.

92 riders finished the race, with difficult conditions, punctures and other unexpected issues knocking out a host of high-ranked cyclists.
