Rutland MP Alicia Kearns backs MP government over Tier system

Rutland MP Alicia Kearns has backed the government tonight over the planned Tier system, which will be introduced from tomorrow.

This vote follows the MP welcoming the government decision last week to treat Rutland as a separate county, as reported by Nub News , which allowed it to be placed into Tier 2, in contrast to nearby Lincolnshire, which was placed in Tier 3.

Over in Lincolnshire MPs slammed the Tier 3 status that was imposed on South Kesteven and the rest of the county, despite the district having far fewer cases than Boston, Lincoln and East Lindsay in Lincolnshire.

MPs including Grantham and Stamford MP Gareth Davies, Sir John Hayes from the Deepings and Gainsborough MP Sir Edward Leigh, who wanted Tier status determined more on local infection rates rather than a one size fits all for the whole of Lincolnshire, spoke out against last week's decision to put the whole county in Tier 3.

Towns such as Stamford and the Deepings spoke out heavily against the Tier 3 decision, something which was picked up by national media, who visited Stamford.

Altogether a minority of 291 MPs tonight voted for the controversial Tier system, which will be imposed on the country from tomorrow.

They included Sir John Hayes of the Deepings, North Kesteven and Hykeham MP Dr Caroline Johnson and Rutland MP Alicia Kearns.

Nub News has requested comment from Mrs Kearns on how and why she voted as she did.
