Alicia Kearns, MP for Rutland and Stamford spoke out about Rutland County Council's handling of Local Government Reorganisation in Parliament.
During Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Topical Questions, Kearns voiced her disappointment that Rutland Council 'left our fate in the hands of others' by endorsing and proposal that Rutlanders have continuously expressed their dislike and opposition to.
In a statement, Kearns said: 'The council know the majority of Rutlanders overwhelmingly do not support re-joining Leicestershire, yet they continue to steam roll ahead with very little support.
'I am deeply concerned the voices of Rutlanders and Stamfordians have been continuously ignored by Rutland County Council throughout the entire Local Government Reform process. Both communities are being disregarded because of the actions of Rutland County Council's cabinet.
In a survey by RCC that did not ask residents which reorganisation they preferred 45% of respondents proactively raised in the 'other comments' box that they supported a union with South Lincolnshire.
According to Kearns, around one third spoke against joining with Leicestershire and a quarter expressed they were against a single unitary model with Leicestershire and Leicester.
She also said 'a mere 10% of respondents supported the North City South model.
In parliament on 12 January, Kearns asked the Minister for Local Government if she would meet with her to ensure the local community get the opportunity to have their say on the Rutland Stamford model which RCC did not consult on.
Rutland County Council were approached for comment on this but did not respond.
