A new children's book written by a local lady is now available in Rutland and Stamford book shops.

Oncar's Adventure at Rutland Water by Whissendine-based author Tracey Dene Powell is a book and audio book developed with the help of local artists, creatives and school children.

It tells the tale of Oncar the panther who journeys around Rutland Water making new animal friends and learning about trust, respect, local wildlife and more.

The new release is aimed at children of primary school age - and some local children from Langham Primary School have already been enjoying the book and providing feedback to enable Tracey to make the final edits.

Now that these edits have been made, the book is hitting local stores near you.

The book is available at the Whissendine local shop, and in Walkers of Oakham and Stamford. Image credit: Tracey Dene Powell.

Tracey explained: "I have been working with Langham Primary School and Jonny Young, Visitors Services Manager, at Rutland Water to create a wonderful audiobook to inspire children to love nature.

"The book is about `The Rutland Panther' and how he meets various creatures around Rutland Water to learn about the nature of the forest, friendship, support, loyalty and trust. Each creature has a different genre of music/instruments making this book a fully engaging experience for every young mind and listener."

The book was sponsored by Whissendine couple David and Jenny Penny, who have purchased copies for every primary school in Rutland.

However, if you haven't got your hands on a copy yet, the book is now available in local book shops for £7.99, which includes a free audiobook available for download with your purchase.

The books are being stocked in Walkers Bookshop, Oakham and Stamford.
