Covid-19 support officers are being recruited by Rutland County Council.

The county council plans to deploy the staff around the county in consultation with Oakham and Uppingham town councils.

There will be two during the day and two in the evening, on Tuesdays to Saturdays.

The council is planning to deploy the officers to give extra support to residents and businesses during the pandemic.

The officers will support businesses and visitors to the towns on a wide range of COVID-19 related matters, including:

  • Acting as an information point, signposting members of the public to government guidance.
  • Offering advice and support on following social distancing rules and encouraging
compliance with COVID-19 public health measures, such as wearing face coverings and not gathering in groups.

  • Observing areas for potential breaches of any Government measures that are in place.

  • Checking and promoting the visibility of COVID-19 messages and signposts.

  • Identifying and supporting businesses who are not following the guidelines.

The officers will have no enforcement role and will not issue any form of fixed penalty notices.

They have been funded by a government grant of £13,000 for marshal activities.

The role is for 20 hours a week at £13 an hour.

Recruitment is through District Enforcement Ltd and people can apply here.
