Residents are being invited by Rutland County Council to take part in Remembrance events across the region between Friday 7 and Tuesday 11 November.

Rutland has an important local connection to the armed forces, with two army bases and one in five Rutland residents having a personal or family connection to the Armed Forces.

On Friday 7 November, Dr Sarah Furness, Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, has organised Rutland's fourth annual 'Festival of Remembrance' at the Pavilion at Rutland Hall Hotel.

The event will start with a drinks and canapes reception from 6.30pm followed by a concert from 7.30pm featuring performances from Rutland secondary schools, The Cottesmore Military Wives Choir and more.

All profits from the Festival of Remembrance will be donated to the Rutland branch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Also raising funds for the Poppy Appeal is the 'Music for Remembrance' event at All Saints' Church in Oakham.

This will be taking place on Saturday 8 November from 7.30pm with music from the Rutland Concert Band.

There will also be a special guest appearance from Katie Marshall, award winning soprano and performances of music centred around the theme of Remembrance.

On Sunday 9 November, Military Units, Cadets, Scouts, Guides, voluntary organisations and Armed Forces veterans will parade from Oakham Castle to All Saints' Church along the High Street.

The Mayor or Deputy Mayor of Oakham Town Council will attend, offering civic representation on behalf of the council.

At 2.30pm, the County Service of Remembrance will take place with the service being concluded with a wreath laying ceremony. Members of the public are invited to attend the services and shout be seated in the church by 2.15pm.

Local churches across the county will also hold their own Remembrance services.

On Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November at 10.50am, there will be a short Service of Remembrance in the grounds of Oakham Castle.

The service will include a minute's silence at 11am. This service will be conducted by Venerable John Ellis CB, former Chaplain in Chief to the Royal Air Force, and representatives of local military units and veterans' organisations will be present. All members of the public are invited to attend.
