Dozens of vehices were trapped by snow on a major Rutland road this morning.

Rutland Police said on social media this morning: "Update A6003 is blocked by 40 cars lorries buses at Preston to Uppingham We have responder on scene more on way."

Several hours later, they also tweeted that thanks to farmers and four-wheel drive owners, the trapped vehicles had now been freed.

Rutland police added: "Big thanks to @LR4x4Response and #RutlandFarmers for helping clear A6003 #Preston this morning. Road is now open but still advising only travel if essential thanks."

Earlier in the day, Leicestershire Police urged drivers to avoid the Uppingham area because of the stuck vehicles.

Leicestershire & Rutland 4x4 Response have posted some videos of the snow and vehicle rescues on their twitter feed, which can be seen here.
