Rutland Land Rover thefts warning

By The Editor 9th Feb 2021

Rutland Police have repeated their calls for Land Rover owners to keep their vehicles safe.

They have warned on social media: "We've had a couple Defenders stripped for parts recently. Think of ways to make getting access to your vehicle difficult for any would be offenders."

The warning follows an incident in Ketton at the weekend.

Rutland Neighbourhood Watch reports a theft from a black Land Rover Defender overnight on Friday/Saturday, which was parked in High Street, just north of J/W Bull Lane.

"Victim reports windscreen removed from vehicle and left behind. Front nearside and offside doors stolen, interior of car searched including handbag. Tool marks found on spare wheel and bodywork.

"Those responsible are likely to have had a vehicle/van parked nearby. Any persons living in High Street between the Northwick Arms public house and the Village shop or travelling along that main road who saw person(s) acting suspiciously are asked to contact PC 2113 Icke quoting Crime ref. 21*075632."

Rutland Police further warned on the neighbourgood watch website: "We are urging owners to take preventative action to mitigate the risk of being targeted.

"Think about where you are parking your vehicle- Do you make sure you keep it locked and secure? Does your vehicle have an alarm? Is your vehicle overlooked by CCTV?

"If you see or hear anything suspicious relating this, then please get in contact with us either on our online reporting tool via the Leicestershire Constabulary Website or 101 in a non-emergency. Please use 999 in an emergency."

Rutland Police last month reported the above vehicle in the photo was stolen from a Rutland village, as recently reported by Nub News.

Last month, police in nearby Lincolnshire also warned organised gangs have been stealing Land Rovers across the region.

They added: "We are stopping Land Rovers seen out at night - Owners we speak to are happy that we're taking LR theft seriously too."
