Storm Goretti has hit Rutland, bringing a mix of snow and heavy rain in the area, causing difficulties with travel and dangerous road conditions.

Uppingham Community College has closed for the day, saying: 'The weather conditions are dangerous for driving, and the school site is unsafe this morning.' Much to the dismay of students, this isn't a day off as they will be expected to complete online work from home.

There are warnings of local flooding which will affect travel in the area.

The following areas are affected by flooding:

  • The River Witham and tributaries from South Witham to Claypole and Claypole to Lincoln – source: South Kesteven Council
  • River Welland in Stamford at risk of flooding with risk to properties – source: Gov.uk Flooding Service
  • A1175 Uffington Road, Newstead has flooding towards Stamford – source: Rutland & Stamford Sound

Check regular flooding updates with Rutland County Council and Rutland & Stamford Sounds.

There are also no trains running through Melton, Oakham or Stamford this morning from East Midlands Railways or Cross Country.
