Rutland tv licence fraud allegations

By The Editor 4th May 2020

Rutland Neighbourhood Watch has warned people to look out for tv licence scams following two attempts in the county.

The neighbourhood watch says two residents of Seaton have received e-mails about renewing their TV licences online.

Their statement explained: "This seems like 'phishing' as one of the residents doesn't have a TV set."

They advised: "Please take great care when dealing with unexpected communications e-mail/postal mail/telephone from seemingly reputable organisations such as the government/banks/BT, which requires you to take some urgent action to avoid a financial penalty.

"This is not how these organisations work, so do not click on any links or provide any information or money in direct response. Careful examination usually identifies some error.

"If you have received anything similar, please report these cases to the National Action Fraud office , not local police.
