The highly anticipated statue of Queen Elizabeth II, fondly flanked by her beloved corgis, has finally arrived in Oakham, Rutland.

Yesterday morning, Sunday 14 April, the impressive sculpture was carefully positioned on its plinth within the library garden, setting the stage for the official unveiling ceremony set to take place this weekend.

On Sunday 21 April, what would have been the late Queen's birthday, Rutland residents are expected to gather to witness the unveiling of the new monument.

The tribute, crafted by sculptor Hywel Brân Pratley, depicts a youthful Queen Elizabeth in regal attire, with loyal corgi companions at her feet. It serves as a permanent reminder of the Queen's remarkable reign and her enduring affection for her Pembroke Welsh corgis.

To ensure the event runs smoothly, roads surrounding the library and the market will be closed for the duration of the unveiling. Find out more about the road closures here.

The unveiling ceremony is set to take place on 21 April at 2pm in the Oakham Library gardens, behind the library. Two local children will support the unveiling of the statues corgi counterparts following a corgi art competition to select the lucky winners.

Food stalls and a mini funfair will be located in Oakham Market Place to mark the event, which is set to run until 4pm.
