Three Rutlanders to do half marathon in memory of Oakham fundraiser
By Grace Kennington 8th Mar 2026
Three Rutlanders are taking part in a half marathon in memory of Lorna Grey, an Oakham woman who dedicated her life to fundraising for local causes.
Lorna's Legacy is a fundraising group that is continuing Lorna's passion and commitment to supporting charities for children living with cancer.
In 2025, the Lorna's Legacy Rutland Variety Show was a huge fundraising extravaganza, organised by Lorna's husband, family and loved ones to raise funds for Supershoes.
Supershoes is a small charity that work with a network of volunteer artists to create beautiful custom 'supershoes' for children struggling in their battle with cancer.
The gift of a pair of supershoes gives these children going through a very dark time something bright and joyful to boost their confidence and sense of self as well as encourage movement and mobility.

Lorna was a huge supporter of Supershoes, along with many other charities throughout her life and gave so much of her time raising funds for causes important to her.
Following the success of the Variety Show, Lorna's family want to continue fundraising in her legacy, this year taking on a half marathon.
The team of three, Lorna's husband Allan and daughter Lucy Hewerdine and close friend Diahann Berridge are running and walking the London Landmarks half marathon on 12 April.
Speaking about the fundraiser, Diahann said: 'Supershoes was Lorna's charity she used to support. Her legacy is about keeping up with that support.
'We are hoping to raise so much more for those children going through treatment for cancer to receive such a unique and personal gift from Supershoes.'
To support the team raise as much as they can in Lorna's name for Supershoes, visit Diahann's GoFundMe page.
