Consultation on Rutland County Council's draft budget for 2020/21 closes on Friday (7 Feb).
The council publishes a draft budget at the start of every year, explaining how much money is needed to run local services in Rutland and, importantly, where this funding will come from.
Residents have until this Friday to share their feedback on the budget proposals, approved for consultation by Cabinet in January,
Rutland County Council says the key points in the latest draft budget are:
· Total funding available to pay for local services in 2020/21 is £38.9m
· The council faces additional costs of £1.6m this year because of increased demand for services, plus £1.3m extra costs caused by inflation
· Around half the council's budget (£19million) will be spent on social care for adults and children
· Savings of around £500k have been identified for the coming year without making any cuts to local services
· The budget includes a Council Tax increase of 1.99%, with a further 2% precept just to fund adult social care services
· After 2020/21, Rutland County Council expects that spending will need to increase further due to inflation and growing demand for services
A revised final budget is due to be presented to Rutland County Council's Cabinet on 18 February, followed by Full Council on 24 February.
