The Uppingham in Bloom team have secured another Gold award.

Uppingham has received a gold medal in the highly contested 'Small Town' category in the prestigious Britain in Bloom awards 2023.

The annual in Bloom competitions see groups of volunteers from across the country, including Rutland's own Uppingham and Oakham in Bloom groups, compete with their floral displays to be crowned the best in Britain for their green-fingered prowess.

As the Uppingham in Bloom group celebrate 40 years of decorating Uppingham with hanging baskets, central displays, shop borders and more, they have also celebrated another win to add to their growing collection.

The group is run by volunteers and, although they have received funding from the council in the past, the group continues to raise money for clubs, equipment and competition entries. As such, they encouraged volunteers to join them both to help out with the planting and to support the fundraising efforts that go on all year round - even if you aren't green-fingered, there is a place for you in the welcoming community group.

Although the biggest visual impact of Uppingham in Bloom can be seen in the summer months, there are activities across the whole year with lots of volunteering opportunities in spring and autumn. Anybody who is interested in volunteering should email [email protected], or head to the Uppingham in Bloom website to find out more.

Congratulations to the team for striking gold again.
