Uppingham student recognised in Lions Community Service Awards
Following the successful launch of The Lions Club of Rutland Community Service Awards last Lion year, another winner has been announced by Rutland Lions Club
Now the largest humanitarian service organisation in the world, Lions Club International was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones, whose guiding principle was, "You won't get very far in this world until you start doing something for somebody else".
Rutland Lions have been running since 1975 and have welcomed 2023 by announcing the winners of their Community Service Awards, in which a number of local students have been recognised for their contributions to the community.
Rutland Lions President Kev Gladding was delighted to present the Lions Community Service Award for a student at Uppingham Community College to Arthur Eastmond.
Arthur was selected by his college in recognition of his selfless and altruistic work for people both within the college and in his local area. Arthur is an independent, self-motivated character which has led to him having a positive effect on so many people.
Arthur wins a personal prize of £50 plus £100 to be donated to a charity of his choice.
In January 2023, Polly Watchorn was awarded her prize by Rutland Lions due to her work highlighting the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
Polly commented that she felt mental health problems were currently affecting so many people and was very honoured to be able to help by donating her £100 to Peppers, the mental health charity in Oakham.
Harington School selected Jaskiran Kaur Bajwa as their community service winner. Jaskiran supports activity groups for children with learning difficulties and autism run by Melton Mencap, often providing one to one support. Jaskiran asked that her £100 go toward Melton Mencap with whom she works every Saturday and during half term breaks.
Congratulations to Arthur, Polly and Jaskiran on their awards.
