Statements of Persons Nominated for the local government elections taking place in Rutland on Thursday 4 May 2023 have been published this week.

The Statements list details all of those who have been nominated for Parish and County Council elections.

Where elections are contested (there are more candidates standing than there are seats available), voting is due to take place from 7am until 10pm on Thursday 4 May 2023.

However, some areas remain uncontested. Find out if your Parish or Town Council has contested seats, or hear from one local Councillor encouraging residents to run for Local Council.

To vote in both the Parish and County elections, voters must be registered to vote and have appropriate identification to do so.

Anyone who is not registered to vote but wants to take part in May's local elections must register before 17 April 2023 and can do this online

The deadline for submitting new applications to vote by post and postal proxy, and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes, is 5pm, Tuesday 18 April 2023.

The deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy (not postal proxy or emergency proxies) is Tuesday 25 April 2023.

To vote in person at a polling station in the local election you will now need photo ID. If you don't have accepted photo ID, you can apply for a free voter ID document, which is known as a Voter Authority Certificate.

Find out more about VAC here.

For all the information you need about accepted photo ID and how to apply for voter ID go to the RCC website. Please note that you will not need photo ID to vote by post. The deadline to apply for Voter ID is 5pm, Tuesday 25 April 2023.

Votes cast in the elections will be counted in the Rutland County Council, Council Chamber, Catmose, Oakham on Friday 5 May (the day after Polling Day).

If you have any questions about the elections, please contact Rutland County Council by emailing: [email protected] or calling: 01572 722 577.
