What to do with the kids in Rutland this half term

Oakham Nub News are here to help you keep the kiddies entertained this February half-term.

All Dressed Up workshop

Rutland County Museum are hosting a series of dress-up and craft workshops for children of all ages and families on Wednesday 15 and 22 of February.

These sessions will take place 10.30am - 12noon and 2.00 - 3.30pm.

Make and learn about Egyptian head-dresses, Victorian fans as well as hats, masks and other accessories for only £2.50 per child (under 4s free).

There is no need to book, but places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Bushcraft Holiday Club

Alternatively, take your little adventurers down to the Rutland Outdoor Education Centre in Wing for up to 3 days of bushcraft activities from 21 February - 23 February.

ROEC are an Ofsted Approved Child care provider in the heart of Rutland providing whole day sessions for kids to make the most of the half-term holidays.

The sessions runs from 9am - 3pm, but attendees are required to arrive 5 minutes early. Please do not arrive before 8:55am as there may be farm traffic still undertaking the morning work. 

The sessions will run, even in rain - "There's no such thing as bad weather, just poor kit" - so make sure you pack a raincoat.

Top to Toe Exhibition

Alternatively, head down to Rutland County Museum to enjoy their current exhibition, running from 28 January until 11 March 2023.

Top to Toe highlights the Museum's own collection of vintage fashion accessories from around the Victorian era up to the 1970s. Some of the accessories on display include popular items such as fans, parasols, shoes, bonnets, smoking paraphernalia and a kaftan style dress coat from the Haute couture label Regamus, London & Rutland. 

This exhibition is FREE to visit and is open to the public during the museums normal opening hours:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10am – 4pm (Last Entry: 3.45pm).

Rutland residents can also borrow puzzles, books, comics and more from the local library, free of charge. All you have to do is sign up for a free library card.

With your library card, you can also rent audio and e-books on the community library app, BorrowBox.

Alternatively, take the kiddies down to Warner's Traditional Sweet Shop at 6 Market Street, Oakham, for a real dairy ice-cream or milkshake from Rossi's - and a chat with Oakham's own Willy Wonka, Chris Warner.

The shop will be open every day of the week during the half-term holidays from 10am - 5pm.
