What's on in Oakham this Bank Holiday weekend: Star Wars Day, May Fayre and charity bike ride

There's loads going on this weekend with a host of events taking place in and around Oakham and Rutland this weekend, from a film screening to Star Wars Day, a charity fun run and open mic night.

Paddington in Peru Cinema Night
On Thursday 1st May, Arts for Rutland will be showing the smash-hit third movie in the Paddington series: Paddington in Peru. Combining the loveable chaos of Paddington's antics with the vibrant setting of the Peruvian jungle. Joined by Olivia Coleman, the gang head to Peru to visit Paddington's Aunt Lucy in her Home for Retired Bears. However, when they get there, they make the shocking discovery that Aunt Lucy is missing.
The cinema showing will be taking place at Rutland County Museum. The doors will open at 7pm and the film will start at 7.30pm. Click here for more details.

May Fayre Dance at Oakham Castle
Oakham's May Fayre Dance celebrates the height of Spring and the start of summer with dancing, music and seasonal blooms on Saturday 3rd May between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
Organised by Root-and-Branch Out with Rutland Morris, Oakham Castle, Rutland County Council and Oakham Town Council, this event will be bursting with music and dance to bring the community together.
Set in the historic grounds of Oakham Castle, this event will include the chance to have a go at Morris and Maypole dancing, as well as making your own flower crown. Attendees are invited to arrive dressed in Spring Green and Summer White Clothing.
This is a free family event, everyone is welcome.

Star Wars Day at Rumble Live

Award-winning attraction Rumble live Action Gaming at Rutland Water is getting into the spirit of Star Wars Day on May 4th with the return of their popular themed laser tag event.
According to the organisers, "Whether you're an aspiring Padawan, a fearless Jedi, or a loyal trooper of the Empire, this is your chance to step into the Star Wars universe and take part in epic laser battles alongside iconic characters like Stormtroopers, Kylo Ren, the Emperor, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda."
Star Wars Day is a fan favourite at Rumble, giving players the opportunity to choose themed missions and pick their alliance to get stuck into immersive missions.
Rumble will be running their Star Wars event on Sunday 4th May at Rutland Water but will also be holding the same event the day before on Saturday 3rd May at Grafham Water.
Participants must be aged 6+ and spaces are limited so it is essential to book your space on this Galactic fun-day.

Charity Walk or Bike Ride for Crohn's and Colitis at Rutland Water
On Sunday 4th May, Crohn's and Colitis UK is holding a special fundraiser at Rutland Water.
The Bluebell wall or Cycle Ride 2025 has a variety of distances to suit fundraisers of all ages and levels of fitness, with walks of 2, 5 and 9 miles and 17 or 25 mile cycle rides. This event is raising vital funds to support people living with Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis through the charity Crohn's and Colitis UK.
This event isn't just a sponsored walk/ride, there will also be plenty of fun for the whole family with a mystery treasure hunt, games and face painting as well as beautiful views of Rutland Water and the stunning bluebells.

Open Mic Night at The Grainstore Brewery
On Sunday 4th May, The Grainstore Brewery in Oakham is hosting their monthly open mic night hosted by CJ Hatt.
This lively event will include some brilliant local acts with an in house guitar, bass guitar and Cajon drum for performers to use.

Thursday Night Dinner at Fox and Hounds

The team at The Fox & Hounds in Knossington be hosting their weekly Thursday night special on Thursday 1st May. This week they are serving up home cooked nachos with smoked beef chilli, guacamole and tomato and jalapeno salsa. They are also offering crispy fire cracker chicken, char grilled Cajun corn on the cob and coconut sticky rice.
