26th Jul 2019 | Local Sport

Tomorrow's season opener away at FC Parson Drove will be a special occasion.

As it is a Groundhop game it will attract a large crowd of non-league football fans, not only from across the UK but also from abroad.

The weekend will see eight matches played between Friday and Sunday with the groundhoppers travelling by coach from match to match.

Oakham's game is the second of the series and with a 10.45am kick-off it will mean an early start to the day for the players and supporters.

Newly-promoted FC Parson Drove have promotion in their sights and as Oakham United have similar ambitions an interesting encounter is on the cards.

Oakham United have previously taken part in three Groundhop games and have an unbeaten record, notching up a total of seventeen goals in the three games !

Their record is as follows: 2014/15 v Coates Athletic (A) 5-2; 2015/16 v Buckingham Town (H) 5-2; 2016/17 v Rushden & Higham (A) 7-2.

The game in 2015/16 was Oakham United's first game in the United Counties League and attracted a record attendance of 341.

Whatever the result tomorrow it should be a day to remember.
